LICET - Let Your Light Shine
Unique Facilities in the Campus
a. With regard to infrastructure, LICET is one of the best institutions affiliated to Anna University: Automation lab (with industrial set up), Thermal lab (with horizontal engine test rig), Center for Intelligent Systems (with Apple computers) etc are the attraction for engineering students from other colleges.
b. Following the model of Corporate Citizenship at Boston College (USA), LICET is working with industries/companies in selection of students, training, and placing them as effective engineers with social responsibility and leadership. Tech-Mahindra has given LICET the status of Premium Partner and they are training the students. LICET is working on bulk recruitment of students for placement. Industries, such as TVS-Lucas and Saipem, have given LICET industrial accreditation. MoUs with industries, such as Halle Visteon, Kone Elevators, Sanmina, Faurecia Interior System, Sicame, Decathalon (Oxylane) etc, are in progress.
c. In order to engineer a just society, LICET students are given opportunity in ‘service learning’ (Outreach Program). Students spend a few days with rural poor, understanding their simplicity, hard work, and their happiness amidst poverty.
d. Research with the industries and other academic institutions is effectively promoted in LICET. LICET has instituted annual prize for the best researched technical paper (LICET Technical Paper Contest). The Dean of Research had been to Ecuador as a consultant for environmental issues, on invitation from the Government of Ecuador, for a period of six months.
e. Another unique feature of LICET is its working partnership with Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) within Loyola campus. LIBA offers an added advantage, namely a combination of engineering degree with business diploma. Already many students are continuing their studies with LIBA. LICET forms not just skilled engineers but engineers who could lead organizations effectively and efficiently. LICET wants to be in every way unique and it is striving to be a centre of global learning for engineers. MoU's with International Universities
Loyola College Society (LCS) and ICAM (Institut Catholique d’Arts et Métiers, Lille, France), both guided by the Jesuit methodology of education, have inked a joint venture of founding an engineering college which is a unique model, not only in forming engineers with social responsibility but also serving as a melting pot of Indian and French cultures preparing Indian students to serve in European industries and European students to work in Indian industries.
Based on principles of integral pedagogy evolved out by Jesuits and the style of education, the whole study program leads not only to the acquisition of professional qualification but also allows students to have comprehensive personal development: ability to work in a team, to effectively communicate, to appreciate cultures, and to be sensitive to ethics and social involvement. Learning foreign languages is also encouraged.
LICET has also established academic contacts with universities in Europe and USA for students/staff exchange programs and for research.
LICET as the Global Training Centre
With state-of-the-art labs and workshops, committed management and dedicated faculty members, LICET creates an ideal milieu for academic excellence. This is further enhanced with MoUs, enabling effective staff and student exchange programs with universities in Europe (France, Spain, and Germany) and the USA. LICET is evolving as a global training as well as formation centre.
